    Realme N53 Review: Design

Realme narzo n53 7.49 mm thickness

Realme always strives to introduce new and innovative designs, and the Narzo N53 is no exception. It is Realme's slimmest phone yet, measuring only 7.49mm in thickness. When held in hand, the device feels sleek and lightweight, weighing just 182 grams. The Narzo N53 is available in two color options: Feather Gold and Feather Black. The Feather Gold variant features a California Sunshine Design with golden lines texture on the back panel, giving the impression of sunlight reflecting. The back has a stylish gold filament coating, and there is a transparent square camera module with three circular protrusions for the lenses and LED flash. The Narzo branding can be seen at the bottom left corner on the rear side.

The right edge houses the volume rockers and power button, while the left edge contains the SIM tray. The bottom edge includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, and speaker grille, while the top edge is empty. The front features an IPS LCD display with thicker bezels at the chin and a waterdrop notch housing the selfie lens. The smartphone has a glossy look and is resistant to fingerprints and smudges. Overall, the Feather Gold variant of the Realme Narzo N53 showcases a stylish design.

    Realme N53 Review: Display

    realme narzo n53

The Realme Narzo N53 sports a 6.74-inch IPS LCD panel with a mini-drop full screen and a 90.3% screen-to-body ratio. Although it is not

an AMOLED panel, the display offers decent visuals with bright colors, accurate and sharp visuals, and satisfactory viewing angles. However, the 90Hz refresh rate feels slightly lacking compared to a 120Hz panel, especially during gaming. Additionally, the display has a peak brightness of only 450 nits, which makes it difficult to view under direct sunlight. Indoors, the display performs adequately. Considering the price point, the screen quality is satisfactory.

    Realme N53 Review: Camera

The Realme Narzo N53 features a dual camera setup on the back, consisting of a 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP additional lens. There is also an 8MP selfie camera on the front.

The camera user interface is simple and user-friendly, offering various modes such as Night, Video, and Portrait. Additional modes like Time Lapse, Pro, Panorama, Slow motion, 50M, and QR Code are available under the "More" option.

    realme n53 camera

The primary 50MP camera delivers decent performance in outdoor settings during the daytime, capturing images with good details. Even in well-lit indoor settings, the image quality remains satisfactory. The color reproduction is better than expected for its price segment, and the shutter speed allows for blur-free photos even when capturing images from a moving car. In low-light conditions, the images lose some detail and show slight distortion around the edges. While these images are usable, they may not satisfy users who require perfect shots in low-light environments.

The 2MP additional lens proves to be less useful, offering limited functionality.

The 8MP selfie camera performs well in daylight, capturing natural-looking skin tones with good clarity. The subject is the focus of the frame, with a slightly blurred background. Sufficient detailing is visible. However, in low-light conditions, the selfie camera's performance is lacking. Realme could have improved this aspect by using a 16MP selfie camera.

    Realme N53 Review: Performance

The Narzo N53 is powered by a Unisoc T612 chipset with up to 6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage. The model reviewed here is the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. The Unisoc T612 chipset, based on a 12nm process, performs well in multitasking scenarios. Background apps do not create issues, and there are minimal stutters or lags. The 128GB onboard storage offers ample space, and it can be expanded up to 2TB using the dedicated microSD card slot. The 6GB RAM is sufficient for most daily tasks but falls short for gaming. Although the device allows converting 6GB of storage into extra RAM to make the effective RAM 12GB, the gaming performance remains limited.

    reame n53 performance

Light games like Candy Crush or Subway Surfer run smoothly, but heavier games like COD Mobile, BGMI, and Asphalt 9 may experience lower frame rates and medium graphics settings. After prolonged gaming sessions, slight lag and device heating may be noticeable. Some benchmark tests were performed, and the results are as follows:

Realme has introduced a unique feature called "Mini Capsule" on the Narzo N53. Inspired by Apple's Dynamic Island, Realme's Mini Capsule is a functionality that adapts to the display and surrounds the punch-hole selfie camera. The Mini Capsule displays battery status, data usage, and steps walked in a day. While the battery status is displayed by default, the other two metrics need to be enabled. The Mini Capsule offers a visually appealing design reminiscent of Apple devices, but further improvements can be made.

In terms of software, the Narzo N53 runs Android 13 OS with Realme UI 4.0, offering user-friendly and simple navigation. However, the device comes with a significant amoun tof pre-installed bloatware, including apps like Snapchat, Spotify, Share Chat, Moj, Jio Cinema, and others. Although these apps can be uninstalled, it would be preferable for brands to reduce the amount of pre-installed bloatware and allow users to install the apps they need on their own.

The smartphone features a 3-card slot, accommodating two SIM cards and one microSD card. It includes a 150% Ultra Boom speaker that produces loud audio but lacks depth, especially at higher volume levels. Overall, the performance of the Narzo N53 is a mixed bag, with the advantages outweighing the disadvantages for users seeking a functional smartphone for everyday use. The calling experience is decent, and despite the absence of 5G connectivity, there are no call drops or signal issues even in low network areas.

    Realme N53 4G Review: Battery

The Realme Narzo N53 is equipped with a 5000mAh battery, which has become standard among smartphones in this segment. With light to moderate usage, the battery easily lasts for a full day. However, heavy users who engage in activities such as long gaming sessions or extensive video editing may need to recharge the device at the end of the day. The battery benefits from features such as ultra saving mode, screen battery optimization, and sleep standby optimization, which help prolong its life. The App Quick Freeze feature freezes idle applications that are not in use, preventing them from consuming power in the background.

The 5000mAh battery supports 33W SuperVOOC charging, allowing the smartphone to reach a 50% charge in approximately 33 minutes and a full 100% charge in around 1.5 hours (90 minutes). Reverse charging is also supported. Realme has implemented additional safety measures, including overcharge protection, over-voltage protection, and extreme cases protection. Trickle charging efficiently charges the battery between 90-100% to prevent overcharging. Overall, there are no complaints regarding the battery and charging capabilities of the Narzo N53.

Realme N53: Should you buy it?

The Realme Narzo N53 is an affordable smartphone that offers decent specifications. It boasts a capable chipset, a large battery, an acceptable primary camera, and an attractive design. However, there are a few drawbacks that should be considered. The device comes with pre-installed bloatware, the additional 2MP lens lacks usefulness, the display's peak brightness levels feel subpar, and the gaming performance is not exceptional. Despite these limitations, if you are in the market for a budget smartphone for everyday use, the Realme Narzo N53 could be a viable option. While it may not deliver top-notch performance, it offers satisfactory results. Additionally, owning a smartphone from a reputable brand like Realme at a price of just Rs. 8,999 can provide a sense of satisfaction.

    Reasons to buy:

    - Beautiful design

    - Large battery capacity

    - Mini Capsule feature

    - Good primary camera

    Reasons to not buy:

    - Mediocre gaming performance

    - Low brightness and refresh rate

    - Pre-installed bloatware

    - Useless 2MP additional lens
